WEIGEL, JOHANN CHRISTOPH: POŽEGA

This panoramic view is also based on E. C. Heiss's template. The copper engraver was Weigel, and the view was published by Leopold Voigt’s publishing house. The view is at the bottom of the large format sheet, while the upper part of the sheet is occupied by a pastoral graphic representation of fun with dogs in the nature. Both views are framed by lavish floral cartouches, with the anchor element and water courses which are not lacking in the Požega region. In the lower part, there is a miniature view of Požega (Possega) from the semi-perspective which is dominated by a fortress. Apart from the strong city ramparts, the towers and buildings of semi-circular roofs of Požega resemble Ottoman buildings. Such a document about Ottoman Požega is credible, since it was only released from Ottoman rule for the first time in 1687 and then in 1691, the second time after the Ottoman invasion. Before that, Požega was an important seat of the Sanjak of Požega. The text in the drapery-shaped cartouche at the top of the sheet reads: Ad dominum rede unt adverso flumine.
