A. A. Tischbein comes from a family which included 18 painters in the 18th and 19th centuries. After several visits to the Netherlands, Germany and Italy, he resided in Trieste in 1839. After traveling to Istria, Krk, Cres and Lošinj, in 1842 he published together with the painter and lithographer A. Selb the monograph 'Memorie di un Viaggio Pittorico nel Litorale Austriaco'. The monograph consists of 44 views, drawings of monuments, etc. Tischbein collaborated with Austrian Lloyd, and between 1840 and 1848 he made many views of Trieste, Pula, etc. This view faithfully shows Vrbnik on the hill above the sea and the mainland in the background. The side drawings of women from the island of Krk may be A. Selba's drawings.
