This view of Poreč by Meisner was made after Bernard von Breydenbach's and Georg Hoefnagel's maps (ref. catalogue No. 88). The image shown in the foreground of Meisner's map is a lion attacking a goat metaphorically representing the domination of the Venetians over the Istrian peninsula. Alike the other Meisner's city views, the representation of Poreč is accompanied by the bilingual, Latino-German comments. So, on this map too, below the cartographic image follows the text formulated in a baroque neo stoical manner in elegiac couplets: Perfer et obdura; tandem bona causa triumphat,/ Fata triumphando per tua victor eris. Translated means: Persevere and endure; despite all, ultimately the good will prevail/ Your destiny will lead you to victory. The Latin sentence is followed then by its German paraphrase.
