The view of the town of Hvar is printed on a complete sheet of, probably, the book of the Dutch traveler „Reizen van Cornelius de Bruyn Door de vermaardste Deelen van Klein Asia, Scio, Rhodus, ...“. The sheet also contains a detailed description of the island of Hvar. The view of Hvar is somewhat faithful, at least as far as the town and fortress locations are concerned. Still, it is obvious that the view was drawn based on a much older model, probably Italian, because there is no Franciscan monastery on the right side of the bay, although it was built in the middle of the 15th century.

DE BRUIJN (BRUYN), CORNELIS (most productive between the 1690s and the 1720s), a Flemish travel writer, theologist and engraver from Delft. In 1698 he published a collection comprising more than 200 maps, plans and ladscapes of the Middle East and North Africa, called Reizen van Cornelius de Bruyn Door de vermaardste Deelen van Klein Asia, Scio, Rhodus, Cyprus, Metelino, Stanchio, etc mitsgaders de voornaamste steden van Egypten, Syrien en Palestina, veriijkt met meer als200.kopere konstplaaten vertoonende de beroemdste landscappen, steden…
