Biermann’s view of the town of Šibenik features the view of the town and its port as seen from the hinterland. In the foreground, the fortress of Šibenik can be seen. In fact, Šibenik was enclosed within its medieval ramparts until the 18th century. Foreground is filled with the fortresses of Šibenik that had important role in the defence of Dalmatia against the Turks. In front of the fortresses two armed guards can be seen, stressing the military importance of these fortifications. In the background, the town of Šibenik itself can be seen with the dome of the cathedral of St. James rising above the rooftops of the town, in whose construction also participated a famous builder Juraj Dalmatinac (Georgius Mattei Dalmaticus, known as Giorgio Orsini in Italy). This Biermann’s view was included in his graphic map issued in 1875 in Trieste by the Austrian insurance agency Lloyd as publisher.
